Mahamrityunjaya Mantra – Know significance, benefits and meaning of the mantra
Shiva is known as God of Death. Death comes in many forms. This mantra helps to protect from death and destruction in every form.
According to another story, this mantra was known to Mata Sati. One time Her father king Daksha got mad at moon (chandra) and cursed it. Moon was in bad shape as a result and was hurting. Mata Sati gave the mantra to moon, who found peace due to this and then Shivji picked it and put it in the hair.
Mantra:
Meaning:
We worship the three-eyed One, who is fragrant and who nourishes all.
Like the fruit falls off from the bondage of the stem, may we be liberated from death, from mortality.
This mantra is the Mahamritunjaya Mantra. It was started by Rishi Markandeya and comes in Yajurved the first time as a part of Namakkam Chamakaam, that is dedicated to Shivji.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE MANTRA:
It helps healing all the realms of human existence: human body, mind, and soul. The fact that it is a 'moksha' mantra makes it a powerful mantra for longevity and healthy life.
